Summer brings MOTM, 26×1, BBQs!

Happy 4th of July, fellow Wickeds! Apologies in advance, it’s been too long since our last club update. There is a lot going on in the club, this newsletter should bring us all up-to-date. As always let me know if you have feedback or questions.

Miles Over The Moon 2022

Wicked’s annual summer road race, Miles Over The Moon (MOTM), will take place next Friday night, July 15, at the Bentley Academy Charter School in Salem. This is
a very important event for our club, as it supports our philanthropic mission and provides funds for our operations. Partial proceeds from last year’s event were donated this year to the Beverly High School Track team. Also at the after-party for Miles (Brother’s Taverna) we will be distributing four scholarships to graduating High School students. The scholarships are funded by partial proceeds from the Frosty Four race this past New Year’s Day. These are outcomes we should all feel proud about.

That said, we need your support for MOTM. What can you do? A lot, actually. Please help us spread the word by telling your friendship circles about the race and encourage them to register. It’s a fun idea to round up a group to run the event and celebrate afterwards together. Please consider volunteering for the race itself. We need members in a variety of functions to keep the race functioning smoothly and safely. Volunteers can contact Caitlin Kuconis at cek582@gmail.com or Laurie Brennan at atlabrennan39@gmail.com.

SAVE THE DATE: Summer BBQ

Wicked will hold our annual Summer BBQ on Saturday August 13th at Forest River Park in Salem MA. An evite will be coming soon with details. This is a fun annual event where we can all get together and just relax for the afternoon. Mark your calendars!

USATF and WGP Update

There has been a lot going on with USATF and WGP. For USATF, a large group of Wickeds descended on Burlington Vermont for the Vermont City Marathon and Relay. It was a sparkling, spectacular weekend in a fun city. 10 members ran the full, and 5 ran a relay leg. Best of all, as it was a USATF event, we got to sport Alen Yen’s awesome creation of new Wicked Singlets. Pictures are a bit scattered as members bounced all over the city and seemed to be more interested in running and establishment-visiting than posing, but here are a few.

For WGP, we had a great turnout at the HAWC 5K on June 5th. Another wonderful day for a great cause.

WGP standings are updated on our website.

26×1 Relay!

As part of WGP, Wicked participated in the annual Somerville Road Runners 26×1 relay on June 25 at Hormel Stadium in Medford MA. This was a tremendous day for the club. We submitted two teams: the Wicked Avengers set a club record at 2:31:21 and came in 4th place overall. The Wicked Guardians crushed the prior second team PR by 10 minutes. Thanks to everyone who participated, and a big shout-out of appreciation to Alen Yen who put countless hours into organizing and running the event. We have access to several photos here and here, but a team shot is below:

Other Races

We have a full calendar with USATF and WGP races, but Wickeds just seem to show up everywhere else. Here are some pictures from the Salem Sound Coastwatch 5K where we had several age group finishers and 1st place team overall.

Upcoming Races including Lynn Woods Relay
Looking for motivation? Want to set a new goal? Interested in meeting some interesting, fantastic people? Well look no further. Top of the list is the next event in the Wicked Grand Prix, the Lynn Woods Relay on Wednesday night, August 24th. Wicked enters teams of 5 people each into this relay event. Cost of this event is FREE with your membership, but you have to register! Use this form to sign up. Like 26×1, Alen Yen is organizing this event. Don’t wait, register today so we can form the teams.

For USATF racing, we have two events in August – the Bobby Dolye 5 miler on Sunday the 14th, and AutoFair NH 10 miler on Saturday August 27th. If none of these work for you, take a look at the longer schedule for WGP and USATF on our website. There are great fall races that you can start planning for now.

Physical Therapy Discount

On Tuesday June 21, before track practice, we had a free Physical Therapy workshop held by Dr. Allison Riley. This was well received and Dr. Riley will return this fall for another free workshop. She also is extending a 10% discount for Wicked Members who may be interested in follow-on 1:1 services. Check out her website at stride PT and wellness for more information.
