Early April Update: Website, Clothing Order, Track starting, 26×1 date set!
We’re well on our way into the spring racing season, it seems like every weekend brings new events and members reaching new goals with them. It’s honestly difficult to keep up with everything so if I miss something, please feel free to send me an email. Or send it ahead of time! Don’t be bashful, we want to celebrate with you. I’ll have some comments below about WGP but outside of that we are aware that Suzi Clements hit a PR in the Cheap Half Marathon today, Rich Tabbut placed 3rd in his age group at the Tapleyville 7 miler, Nicki Rice continues to smash the field, placing 2nd in her age group at the Black Cat 10 Miler (PR also) along with board member Amy Chruniak who also placed at the same race. We are also coming up on the World Series of long-distance racing, our own Boston Marathon where several Wickeds will be running. We have a large contingent of members at Mile 17 which will be cheering you on. Finally, member Carita Wegner, who we did a spotlight on a few weeks ago, was successful in her quest to complete the Marathon des Sables last month. Not one to miss out on anything, Carita will also be running Boston on the 18th. Busy times! We’re all thrilled to share in the achievements of our club members. It’s what we are all about. Bravo!
Website Update
OK, it’s done – for 2022 anyway. Our old website is no more, and both the wickedrunningclub.com and wickedrunningclub.org domains point to our new, and only, website. I won’t bore you with the silly techie details but the .com domain “redirects” your browser to the .org domain. This isn’t ideal but it will need to suffice for 2022. Perhaps in the future we will switch it the other way – where the .org redirects to .com. Perhaps. If anyone sees technical difficulties or Search Engine Optimization weirdness please let me know.
Spring Clothing Order
Clothing Director Alen Yen has sent out an email regarding a springtime opportunity to purchase Wicked Running Club gear. This is only available until Sunday April 17th! So don’t delay order today. You can find the store here. Similarly, but not directly related, a person on Etsy has created some Wicked Cat logo earrings that you may be interested in. Those can be found using this link. Please note, the earrings are provided by a 3rd party not managed by Wicked, so we can’t be responsible for customer service, ordering, availability, etc. But some members really enjoy these so if you wear earrings you may want to check it out.
Track at BHS!
As spring is upon us we will return to Tuesday night track sessions at Beverly High School. These in-person sessions are available to all club members. We are very fortunate to have Fernando Braz as our club running coach, who organizes these valuable sessions. I can personally attest to how these sessions have made me a much stronger runner. Track will begin starting Tuesday April 26th at 6:30PM. For those of you who have not been to track before, or just want a refresher on how it works, you can take a look at this page on our website. For all members, please review the section on Track Courtesy on that page.
WGP and Other Run Happenings
Well, it’s been busy! We held our second WGP race at the April Fool’s 4-miler in Amesbury MA. It was an incredibly windy day but we had equally great member results with Julie Kee (2nd age group), Dan Chruniak (1st age group),and Shannon Cram (PR). A great time had by all and a good chance to see members from the northern reaches of the club.
We had our first Wicked visit to Notch Brewing in Salem at the end of March. It was great to get the clubs together, we are looking forward to doing more such connections in the future.
Finally, a group of Wicked responded to an invite by Mystic Runners to join their 5K Lake Q charity run dedicated to the people of Ukraine. A fun night with another community running group, for a great cause. Thanks to everyone for coming out!
Save The Date: 26×1 set for Saturday June 25
Our first relay of 2022, the 26×1 relay, is set for Saturday June 25th. This is a premier regional event put on by the Somerville Road Runners. You can read more about the event on our website. This year our 26×1 committee is chaired by Alen Yen. June seems far away, but it will come to us fast. So keep training and be on the watch for further communications.
MOTM 2022
As mentioned previously, Miles Over The Moon will be held on Friday night July 15. Registration will soon be open. Race director Paul Kuconis is busily making preparations for this race with his committee. This race is very important to the club and our community. If you know of any potential sponsors, please reach out to Paul at pfk0753@gmail.com and he can send you a packet of information on sponsorship opportunities.
